The invention comprises 6-hydroxy-1,3-dialkyl-benzotriazolium salts of the formula wherein X represents a monovalent anion. They may be obtained by hydrolysis of the corresponding 6-amino-1,3-dialkylbenzo-triazolium salts in dil. H 2 SO 4 solution at a temperature between 175‹ C. and 220‹ C. Examples are given for the preparation of the compounds. They are useful for the preparation of dyes.
