Scleroproteins (which term includes purified gelatin) which have been hydrolysed, racemized and decationized are used for cosmetic applications. Hydrolysis and racemization may be effected by the action of dilute aqueous sodium or potassium hydroxide, and decationization by means of an ion-exchange material. The product of the decationization may be vacuum concentrated to produce a fluid, paste-like or dry material.ALSO:The product of the hydrolysis, racemisation and decationisation of scleroproteins (see Division C3) is used in cosmetics. Examples are given of a hair lotion containing also polyvinylpyrrolidone, sorbic acid, ethanol and water, and of a nail cream containing also water, the tertiary ester of orthophosphonic acid and ceryl-tetraglycollic ether, cetyl alcohol, isopropyl myristate, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, perfume and ethanol. |
