PURPOSE:To easily constitute light guides having a prescribed equiv. refractive index by depositing >=2 kinds of materials having different refractive indices on a substrate and forming the multilayers thereof at the thicknesses sufficiently smaller than the wavelengths to be used. CONSTITUTION:This light guide has the light guides of the prescribed refractive indices constituted by laminating the thin films of >=2 kinds of the materials having differences in the refractive indices to the prescribed thicknesses smaller than the light wavelengths within the respective materials on the substrate. For example, a light guide clad 2b is formed by vapor deposition, etc., on the substrate 1 and the layers 2c consisting of GeO2.SiO2 and the layers 2d consisting of SiO2 are alternately laminated thereon by vapor deposition, etc., by which the light guide core 2a is formed. Designing of the refractive index of the light guide and the difference in the refractive index between the light guide core and the light guide clad to prescribed values is thereby enabled and, therefore, the light guide is so constituted as to decrease connection loses at the time of connection to optical fibers. |
