PURPOSE:To carry out the buffering of impact by means of an air bag at the optimum timing by setting the time from the collision of a vehicle to the start of operation of the air bag and correcting this time in accordance with various conditions such as an ambient temperature, etc. CONSTITUTION:A detecting portion 1 output a collision detection signal when a plurality of collision detecting sensors 1a, 1b are simultaneously closed. A temperature detecting means 2 detects the ambient temperature of an inflator through a temperature sensor 2a and outputs a detection signal. A control portion 3 sets the time from the input of the collision detection signal to the operation of the inflator by a time setting means 4 while correcting the set time based on the temperature detection signal by a correcting means 5. An inflator 5 is ignited after the lapse of the set time to fill the air bag 7 with a gas to inflate same. Thereby, the time when both impact force and the buffering capacity of the air bag 7 becomes the maximum can be conformed to the optimum. |
