The end carriage 1 of a railway train is supported at its free end by a pair of wheel-sets w 2 , w 4 which are spaced at a distance f 1 from a joint J by which the end carriage 1 is connected to the adjacent carriage 2 and which are spaced apart by a distance 2e, and the adjacent ends of the carriages are also interconnected by a steering beam s such that the joint J is displaced a distance y on negotiating a curve to cause the wheel-sets w 3 , w 4 to be substantially radial to the curve. The displacement y is given by where R 0 is the radius of the curve. The steering beam s has wheel-sets w 1 , w 2 as described in Specification 1,245,645. The wheel-sets w 3 , w 4 may be independently mounted on the carriage 1 or interconnected to form a bogie; they may be replaced by a single wheel-set. The wheelsets have live axles connected to the carriage or the steering beam by resilient yaw suspensions.</p> |
