Molybdenum salts of mono-carboxylic acids are obtained by reacting a molybdenum oxide, molybdenum halide, alkali metal molybdates, alkaline earth metal molybdate and ammonium molybdate with the acid at elevated temperature while removing water. In a modification ammonia is added to the reaction mixture. Aliphatic and aromatic acids may be used and molybdenum hexafluoride, pentachloride, dioxide, trioxide and sesquioxide, caesium, sodium, potassium and calcium molybdates and ammonium molybdate are specified. The essential water removal may be by dehydrating agents or the addition of an azeotroping agent, e.g. ethylbenzene. Examples describe the preparation of molybdenum octanoate, valerate, naphthenate, dodecanoate and cyclohexanoate.</p> |
