[Also in Division F2] An inertia reel device comprises a reel 14 having a belt 12 attached thereto and mounting main and subsidiary ratchets 18, 20. there being also pivotable about a pin 22 main and subsidiary pawls 24, 28, the device operating such that under acceleration pendulum 42 moves from the vertical, lifting a dome topped cylindrical member 36 which in turn rotates pawl 28 into engagement with the subsidiary ratchet 20, and then if tension is applied to belt 12 the pawl will be further rotated clockwise and a lip 30 thereof lift the pawl 24 against the action of spring 27 into engagement with the main ratchet 18 thereby locking the reel. The pawl 24 will remain in engagement with the ratchet 18 after the pendulum has assumed a vertical position and until the tension in the belt is released. The member 36 is situated in a socket 38 and actuated by a hemispherical member secured to the shaft 40 of the pendulum. A lever 46 which can be locked in position by a screw passing through an arcuate slot therein is rigid with the socket 38 and is used to maintain the socket vertical. (For Figure see next page.)</p> |
