The present invention concerns an absorbent article, such as a diaper or an incontinence pad, with a liquid- impermeable outer layer 2 and a liquid-permeable outer layer 1 which are connected to each other around an absorption body 3 which is enclosed between the two outer layers and is made up of one or more layers 4, 5, which article comprises members 13, 14 for joining its sides together to form a shape similar to underpants with two leg openings and a waist opening delimited by a front waist edge 6 and a rear waist edge 7. According to the invention, the two outer layers 1, 2 at the rear waist edge 7 extend a distance beyond the absorption body 3, on both sides thereof, and form an easily bendable side flap 11, 12 on each side of the absorption body. An elastic member 15-18 is moreover arranged between the side securing members 13, 14 along the whole of the rear waist edge 7 and is, relative to the liquid-permeable outer layer, arranged outside at least one layer 4 in the absorption body 3. The elastic member 15-18 is secured to the article in the tensioned state, and in the unloaded state of the article the elastic member draws the material of the flexible side flaps together, while the comparatively stiffer absorption body is largely left unaffected. <IMAGE> |
