PURPOSE: To automatically form a decument extremely good in the arranging format of a compsn. by eliminating orphan lines by stopping printing operation at a position above or below the line of the final end designated in a page by one line. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus determines the relative position on paper of the printing line contained in a text with respect to the predetermined number of the lines of the page of the text and checks whether the line is present in a first paragraph or a final paragraph. When the line in the text is present in the final line of the paper and contained in the first line of the paragraph, typing is completed at the end of the previous line of the text and the next line of the text is transferred to the next page of a document. If the line is the final line of the paragraph of the text and the final line of the paper, the lower boundary line of the paper is neglected and the line is printed as the final line of the paragraph in the next line of the text and, by this constitution, it is avoided that the line is printed on the paper as an orphan line.
