PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound which is used as a starting substance for phenolic resin, safely in high selectively and high yield, by conducting liquid- phase dehydrogenation of cyclohexenone and/or cyclohexenol using a solid catalyst containing a platinum group metal supported. CONSTITUTION:Liquid-phase dehydrogenation of cyclohexenone and/or cyclohexenol is carried out, preferably in a solvent such as toluene, in the presence of a solid catalyst having a platinum group metal supported at 150-330 deg.C, preferably under initial pressure with an inert gas such as nitrogen to produce phenol which is used as an intermediate of plasticizers, dyes, or the like and/or cyclohexanone which is used as an intermediate of high molecular compounds such as nylon or polyester, plasticizers, synthetic lubricant, organic chemicals and the like. The catalyst is prepared by supporting at least one selected from Pd, Ru, Pt and others on activated carbon and/or hydrotalcite in a usual manner and the amount of the metal is usually 3-15wt.%. |
