[Also in Division C3] An aqueous coating composition comprises (1) 30-70% by wt of solids of a vinylidene chloride polymer or copolymer containing at least 70% by wt of vinylidene chloride, (2) 10-35% of an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer containing 60-82% of ethylene, (3) 5- 35% of a hydrocarbon wax and optionally (4) up to 30% of a polyalkylacrylate, a copolymer of ethylene and an unsaturated acid, e.g. methacrylic, containing 55-97% of ethylene and having 5-75% of the acid groups neutralised or a glycerol ester of polymerised rosin, said dispersion having a solids content of 40-65% by wt. Component (2) is preferably ethylene/vinyl acetate and (3) a petroleum wax. The dispersions are used to coat paper products or polyolefine films.</p> |
