<p>Fertilizers are granulated by treating pulverulent fertilizer materials (e.g. Thomas phosphate, raw phosphate, finely ground phosphate fertilizers, nitro-chalk, or mixtures of these with other plant nutrients) with 3-20% of water or aqs. solns. or suspensions opt. inorg. binders and granulating by means of a granulator consisting of a rotor with movably mounted hammers working at 600-8000 r.p.m. against a perforated sheet or sieve to give hard, abrasive-resistant, relatively uniform, dust-free granules. Typical binders include molasses fermentation by-products, phenol urea resins, hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyacrylic acid, sodium cellulose glycolate etc.</p> |
