<p>Balancing apparatus (10) comprises a wheel assembly (14) arranged to be mounted on a bicycle (12) by elongate mounting members (16a, 16b; 18a, 18b). A pair of cables (20a, 20b) connect the wheel assembly (14) with an annular disc (22) positioned on the handle bar stem (112) of the bicycle (12). The wheel assembly (14) comprises a wheel (26) rotatable about a horizontal axis and turnable about a vertical axis. When the rider rides the bicycle (12) with the front wheel (124) off the ground by a selected amount the wheel (26) will come into contact with the ground. This enables the rider to maintain balance. Further, the bicycle (12) may be steered by turning the handle bars (120) in conventional manner. Such turning of the handle bars (120) pulls on one of the cables (20a, 20b) to cause said wheel to turn about the vertical axis, enabling the bicycle (12) to be also steered.</p> |
