A lightweight universal electric wheeled chair is formed of hollow tubular frame members (see Fig. 12, parts 202, 208, 210, 220 and 222). The seat is preferably cantilevered from rear frame members (see Fig. 12). The frame includes two rear frame members (208, 210), pivotally connected together intermediate their ends to form an ''X'' configuration with the lower ends of each of the rear frame members being pivotally secured to the rear ends of the lower side frame members (202), to permit collapsing of the wheeled chair. Nickelcadmium batteries may be mounted in the tubular frame (202, 208, 210, 220 and 222, Fig. 12) of the wheeled chair, and each of the rear wheels (206) is provided with a small electric motor (328, Figs. 16, 18), aligned with and coupled to each rear wheel (206) through appropriate gear reduction assemblies (332, Fig. 18). |
