An object emits infra red radiation which is received by an optical input and reflected by two mirrors, placed one behind the other, which are turned about perpendicular axes so as to produce a scan of the surface of the object. The radiation then travels to another mirror from which it is reflected via a lens onto a detector which is connected via an amplifier to processing the viewing equipment. When the operator, who is watching the screen, sees and objects emitting radiation he can direct a beam of visible light onto it. A light source produces the beam of light which is reflected by the mirrors and via the lens onto the object. USE/ADVANTAGE - Investigating heating of structure.
