Brazing aluminium and its alloys

Welding of Al or Al alloys is effected by using brazing alloy containing Sr, Sb, Bi or Ba individually or collectively. A preferred content of 0.05-2% is added to a basic composition of either Al/Si alloy containing 6-20% Si, or 2-26% Al (98% max. purity) the rest Zn, or 26-45% Al (98% max. purity) +Zn+Mn up to 1%. The wettability is increased and the surface tension reduced to give improved weld without need for either separate flux, high vacuum, or highly non-oxidising conditions.
