A rear-view mirror (1) fitted in a vehicle has a rearward reflecting face (4). The outer face (2) of its structure incorporates a number of solar cells which are normally exposed to the sun. Power developed in the cells, which are connected in series, is fed to the vehicle's battery through wiring housed in the mirror's support (3). A series diode is included so that the battery cannot discharge through the cells if they are inactivated due to darkness. In practice, a trickle charge is provided for the battery during most daylight hours. Parking near a street light can generate a supply even at night. ADVANTAGE - Cell-equipped mirror uses sun's rays to provide constant trickle charge for installed batteries, and is of particular value in those vehicles which receive only infrequent use. Mirror functions are unaffected.
