A fishing line (6) has shock absorbing devices (1) to (4) fitted to the part of the line which passes through the hollow fishing rod. The line (6) is formed into a series of loops (5) with the ends of each loop attached to a tension spring (1,2,3,4) and with the end tension spring attached to a ring (13). A short line (16) attached to this ring (13) carries a spring (17) and a hook (18). When a fish pulls on the hook (18) the springs (1) to (4) are extended before the full load is taken on the line (6) and so reduces the shock emposed on the rod and on the angler. USE - Angling.
