A three-section lorry-or truck-mounted hydraulic mast (2,32,33) carries an upper unit (3) which incorporates parallel arms (4) supporting a working platform (36-39). These arms can be depressed, extended horizontally, or raised by the action of a hydraulic jack (34). Control of the jack is effected by an operator in the platform (36-39) who has a lever linked to a hydraulic unit (1). This unit, which incorporates motor-driven pumps and batteries for powering them, moves on a corresponding arm arrangement to counterbalance the platform as it extends laterally. A second jack is used to turn the upper unit, and hence the platform, around a vertical axis as required. The mast height is also regulated by operator control, and emergency means are provided to effect his recovery from ground level if necessary. ADVANTAGE - Platform concept provides all necessary movements without involving heavy or cumbersome linkages, and is locatable directly above workpiece when job so requires.
