PURPOSE:To increase the sensitivity of whiskers and, then, to improve the reliability of photoconductive characteristics, by collecting tetrapodlike zinc oxide whiskers which are composed of core parts as well as needlelike crystal parts that are extended in different four axes directions from the core parts, thereby making up a photodetecting part. CONSTITUTION:After crushing a metallic zinc powder with water by a mortar- type grinder, its powder is left in water. After drying, it is put in a crucible made of alumina to treat with heat and then, zinc oxide whiskers which are formed into tetrapodlike shapes are obtained. Most of them indicate that each needlelike crystal extending in different four-axis directions shows a tetrapodlike shape. While forming comb-type electrodes of Sn, a photodetecting part is made up in a state that further pressure is applied. In this way, the whiskers have each length that is within 3-200mum from the base part of tetrapod-needlelike crystals to the pointed end and have the diameter of the base part that is within 0.7-14mum. Thus, highly sensitive and stable photoconductive characteristics are indicated. |
