A suprapublic flushing water drain for the discharge from the bladder of flushing water supplied from a transurethrally positioned resection instrument (5) includes a shaft (11) defining a passage which communicates with atmosphere e.g. via an air opening (16) in the vicinity of its proximal end. The passage also communicates with a lateral overflow opening (17), below the air opening (16), for connection to an outlet hose (18). In use, flushing water flows from the bladder out through the overflow opening (17) with the pressure within the bladder being automatically maintained constant, by virtue of the provision of the air opening (16). <IMAGE>
