PURPOSE:To reduce a turning stage of a rolled stock and to improve the rolling efficiency by installing an edger mill consisting of a pair of nondrive vertical rolls between two roughing mills consisting of a pair of drive horizontal rolls having a caliber for rough rolling and in a position adjacent to both the rough rolling mills. CONSTITUTION:Drive horizontal rolls H1, H2 and a nondrive vertical roll V are assembled in a housing all together and edging together with shape rolling are performed by continuous rolling by three stands of H-V-H at a stroke. Edging is performed by use of both pushing force caused by drive horizontal roll rolling in the front stage and drawing force caused by drive roll rolling in the rear stage. Therefore, a turning stage for edging and a rolling stage by horizontal rolls in a conventional method are eliminated. Further, alternate tandem installation of drive horizontal rolls and nondrive vertical rolls causes similar effect by finishing a rolled stock to a final roughly shaped steel billet by one pass. |
