The invention relates to a refuse receptacle, in particular for refuse carrying the risk of infection or for other hazardous materials, which has any desired shape and can be closed with a lid. It is desired that such a receptacle meet the relevant regulations of the health authorities and of environmental protection. This is achieved in that a single blank (1) manufactured from a wood-based material, for example corrugated cardboard, can be folded upright about folding lines (3-6, 11-18 and 23-26) to form the receptacle (31), the blank (1) incorporating a fluid-tight layer (cf. 35), coating, impregnation or the like at least at that surface which forms the bottom and inner faces of the receptacle (31), and the corner regions (36-39) of the receptacle (31) which extend to the top from a, for example, square bottom area (2) are lined with a fluid-tight compound, in particular with an adhesive sealing compound, and the upper edge of the receptacle (1) is intended for accommodating a sealing lid (40, 50).
