The nozzles of a cutting drum are supplied with sprinkling liquid during the drum rotation only when they are directed towards the mineral to be released. In cutting drums which serve as a parting tool for a shearer loader or a selective-cut heading machine, the cutting-drum peripheral area facing the mineral frequently changes not only its position but also its size. In order to reduce the water consumption and ensure as effective a suppression as possible of the dust accumulating during the parting action, the engagement area of the cutting drum and its admission area must largely coincide. It is proposed to arrange the distributor rings (37), not participating in the drum rotation, of the rotary lead-through transmission (25) of the cutting drum in such a way that they can be rotated about the drum axis (8) and be mutually adjusted inside the rotary lead-through transmission (25) and to provide an adjusting mechanism operable from outside, by means of which the sector of the cutting drum (1) to which liquid is admitted in each case can be increased or reduced in a continuously adjustable manner. <IMAGE>
