WATER-RUNNING PREVENTING MATERIAL AND CABLE

PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a cable having a good water-running preventing property against microcavities and shaping ability at manufacture, by bonding a water-soluble film to a sheet structure containing a preset weight ratio of a highly water-absorbing polymer having a degree of water swelling of 10cc/g or more. CONSTITUTION:A highly water-absorbing polymer having a degree of water swelling of 10cc/g or more is allowed to be contained in a sheet structure 3 at a mixing ratio of 0.2 to 50wt.%, preferably 0.2 to 20wt.% A water-soluble film 4 bonded to this sheet is used as a water-running preventing material. A cable is composed of a tension member 7 as a core and spacers 6 with slots at its true center and optical fiber core wire tapes 5 are arranged in portions of slots. A water-running preventing material is wound around the spacers 6 and is entirely encased in an external covering layer 1. This configuration yields the cable superior in its water-running preventing property against microcavities, and shaping ability at manufacture.
