PURPOSE:To obtain the subject material giving a refractory having excellent strength, abrasion resistance and heat resistance, by coating metallic silicon granules with a mixture of pitches and green pitch coke. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100pts.wt. of granular metallic silicon passing through a 200 mesh sieve or (B) a homogeneous mixture of the component A and 0.1-30 pts.wt. of one or more materials selected from ferrosilicon, metallic Al and SiC having particle size equal to that of the component A is coated with a mixture of (C) 30pts.wt. of pitches having a softening point of >=125 deg.C and (D) >=10pts.wt. of green pitch coke having a fixed carbon content of 90-95wt.%.
