In a process and in equipment for disposing of filling gases arising in a coking plant in a tamping operation during the filling of coke ovens, it is proposed that the filling gases from an oven which is to be filled are passed into at least one oven already filled with coal and heated up to the coking temperature, and are then fed to the gas treatment of the coking plant.
