PURPOSE:To considerably increase the rate of removal of COD and phenol by removing hydrogen sulfide and ammonia in effluent water from a catalytic cracker and treating the water in a two-step batch-type activated sludge apparatus composed of two biological treatment tanks arranged in a line. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen sulfide and ammonia in effluent water are removed in a stripper 3 and the water is introduced into a first biological treatment tank 4, where aeration is intermittently carried out for <=12hr/day to accelerate the growth of yeast fungi forming a pseudo-fungus system and activated sludge is rapidly settled and separated. The supernatant liq. (treated water) contg. a somewhat reduced amt. of phenol and COD is introduced into a second biological treatment tank 5, where batch-type treatment with activated sludge is carried out in the same way to remove COD and phenol. The treated water is discharged from the tank 5. |
