PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of a rupture or a bulge by rotating an arc lamp in its peripheral direction and blowing the cooling air to the opposite surface to the ultraviolet ray emitting surface of a light emitting section. CONSTITUTION:An arc lamp 1 is rotated nearly half in the positive and reverse directions in turn, air is blown from a fixed fan 3, the cooling air is uniformly fed over the whole area of the light emitting section 2 of the lamp 1 to uniformly cool it. One end of the arc lamp 1 is connected to a holding tool 4 performing the half-rotation motion via a converting mechanism 6 converting the rotation of a motor 5 into the half-rotation motion, it is rotated nearly half in the positive peripheral direction or reverse direction in turn. The occurrence of a rupture or a bulge of a tubular bulb or the condensation is thereby prevented, a metal halide arc lamp with the excellent performance and long life can be obtained. |
