The invention relates to a clavichord, in which the strings are struck with tangents via keys in known manner. The resonance box is, however, considerably larger than in the historical clavichord and is separated from the playing part. It lies, placed upside down, above the tangents and can in this manner rest to a great extent in an unconnected manner. <IMAGE>
