摘要 PURPOSE:To certainly detect the leakage and leak place of liquid metal sodium, by a method wherein a plurality of optical waveguides are mutually arranged in series along liquid metal sodium handling piping so as to cover the welded parts of said piping with the opening parts of said waveguides. CONSTITUTION:Optical wave guides provided with opening parts, for example, optical fibers 33a-33c are mutually mounted in series along the welded parts 31 of a liquid metal sodium receiving piping 30 or other machinery so as to be covered with the opening parts and the liquid metal sodium leaking from the welded part 31 is caught by the optical fibers 33a-33c. Light emitters 36a-36c are provided to one end of the optical fibers 33a-33c and photodetectors 37a-37c are provided to the other ends of said fibers and the presence of the liquid sodium leaking from the welded part 31 is detected from a change in the reflectivity of light. By this method, it can be detected that the leakage of liquid sodium is generated at a part where the optical fiber increased in the attenuation quantity of light among the optical fibers 33a-33c is arranged, and the leakage and leak place of liquid sodium can be accurately detected.
