Oil separation for a horizontal refrigeration srew compressor is achieved in a series of steps which achieves nearly oil-free refrigerant gas. The refrigerant is discharged from the compressor into a generally cylindrical shell which is divided into three chambers (18, 19, 20). A generally horizontal, but slightly tilted, divider plate (16) unequally divides the cylindrical shell into two chambers (18, 19) for the greater portion of the cylindrical shell. A cylindrical chamber (20) at the end of the cylindrical shell provides fluid communication between the other two chambers (18, 19). The compressor discharge is located in the lower and larger chamber (18) which is a segment of a circle portion which also contains the oil sump. A discharge deflector (30) turns the compressor discharge flow at least 90 DEG , but as much as 135 DEG , and causes it to impact upon the lower surface of the divider plate (16) and depositing oil thereon. The flow striking the divider plate (16) is deflected 180 DEG and is caused to turn approximately 90 DEG to flow past a baffle plate (34). The entire flow passes serially through two demisters (40, 42) into the cylindrical chamber (20) where it is deflected 180 DEG and the entire flow passes through a coalescer (50) into the upper chamber (19) which is a smaller segment of a circle portion. The nearly oil-free refrigerant gas then is delivered to the refrigeration system.
|
