PURPOSE:To effectively set a scanning length even in a copying machine which is not provided with a mechanism for detecting original size by specifying an unnecessary scanning part from its relationship with a copying sheet carried in synchronization with the scanning of an original. CONSTITUTION:When a contraction ratio is set equal to or less than a certain contraction ratio by an original contraction ratio setting means 23, the original size is regarded as a big size and a first scanning range instructing means 24 instructs to scan the full width of a platen glass 21. A second scanning range instructing means 28 recognizes, via its relationship with the copying sheet carried in synchronization with the scanning of the original, a part unnecessary for scanning, and ultimately a scanning range control means 29 specifies the range to be scanned. Thus, the scanning length is effectively controlled from a viewpoint different from that of controlling the scanning length by the original size. |
