PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal display element which withstands a reliability test of a high degree by using an orientation control film formed by coating a specific arom. polyamide polymer on a substrate, then evaporating and drying the solvent and subjecting the coating to a rubbing treatment. CONSTITUTION:The arom. polyamide polymer having the repeating unit expressed by general formula I is used as the orientation control film. This polymer is insoluble in a liquid crystal and water. The orientation control film is obtd. by dissolving said polymer in a specific soln., coating the same on the substrate having a transparent conductive film such as indium oxide and drying the coating by heating at 100-250 deg.C, then rubbing the coating. Two sheets of the substrates formed in such a manner are disposed in parallel to face each other and the liquid crystal is sealed therebetween. The liquid crystal display element which is improved in thermal reliability and withstands use in a place exposed to a high temp., etc. is thereby obtd. In the formula, R1-R8 respectively independently denote H, lower alkyl group, lower alkoxy group, halogen, X denotes -O-, -S-, >C=O, -SO2-, >S=O, etc., and Ar denotes p(m)- phenylene group, diphenylene group, naphthylene group, etc. |
