PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a stable combustion over all combustion range in the cylinder and improve the ignitionability at the time of light load by enlarging opened end part as far close to a spark plug, and forming a squish part provided with an injector near the closed end part. CONSTITUTION:A squish part 10 is formed between two blcoking faces 11, 13 formed by a part of the top face of a cylinder 3 and a part of the lower face of a cylinder head, and the opened end part 14 is enlarged as far close to a spark plug 2. And an injector 1 is provided close to the closed end part 15 of the squish part 10, and a part or the whole of fuel is injected from a top dead center position toward either of the two blocking faces 11, 13. Owing to this, the fuel is injected to the blocking faces 11, 13 to evaporate by a squish flow 4 and carried to the spark plug 2, and the squish flow 4 flowing to the spark plug 2 becomes a thick gas mixture suited for ignition. and thus a flame kernel being strong at the time of ignition can be obtained. The flame becomes difficult to be quenched after ignition, so that the squish flow 4 can be utilized to promote the flame propagation.
