PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic sintered body having high resistance to chipping, superior machinability, and superior surface smoothness by calcining a molded material obtd. from specified raw materials consisting primarily of alumina, titanium carbide, and titanium oxide. CONSTITUTION:1-10pts.wt. ZrO2 and 0.5-6pts.wt. at least one kind of Mgo, CaO, or Y2O3 or compds. which are converted to MgO, Y2O3, or CaO by calcination, are mixed with 100pts.wt. primary constituting raw material consisting of 60-80wt.% Al2O3 and 20-40wt.% TiC and TiO2 (wherein the proportion of TiO2 basing on the total amt. of TiC+TiO2 is 8-20wt.%), and the materials are mixed sufficiently uniformly. Then, a formed body having a desired shape is prepd. and then calcined to disperse ZrO2 particles consisting of tetragonal crystals into a sintered body. Thus, a sintered body contg. 0.4-11wt.% crystal phase of a compound oxide generated by the reaction of at least one among MgO, Y2O3, and CaO with alumina, is obtd. |
