A headlamp is arranged to emit, with the same lamp, two distinct cut-off beams which are superimposed so that the cut-off sections coincide instead of a single beam, thus ensuring more uniform close range to distant lighting of the ground, while retaining control of the degree of brightness - an asset of ellipsoidal headlamps with masked active parts. The arrangement comprises a cut-off region (shaded area on the drawing) which eliminates the top of the normal ellipsoids (1 and 4), above which is attached a segment of an ellipsoid (5) with its own mask (2), the main mask (6) being folded back and prolonged.
