The tape measure is pulled from and retracts into a case. Instead of the ribbon being marked in inches or cms. it is marked off in scales which represent the scaling factor applied to a building plan or map. One application is to use four 5mm wide ribbons each marked with a different scale on each side making eight scales in total. Each ribbon comes out of a corner of the box which measures 10 cms. square and 7 mm. thick. Other a are to have one 6 mm. wide ribbon with 2 scales each side and wider ribbons with three or four scales on each side. ADVANTAGE - Small, compact, easy to carry in pocket.
