Combustion chamber, for supplying atomic fluorine for a chemical laser, is defined by the interior of a metallic casing into which are introduced a fuel and a stoichiometric excess of an oxidising fluorine source gas, the novelty being that the fuel is selected from PTFE, S, C and hydrocarbons arranged in the solid state in the combustion chamber. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used to supply atomic fluorine to deuterium-or hydrogen-fluoride chemical lasers. It provides high yields of atomic fluorine free of polluting cpds., does not require a complicated cooling system, and does not require a fuel storage vessel and feed system, so that a laser of small size, easily transportable and capable of high power continuous operation, can be constructed.
