PURPOSE:To improve efficiency in biochemical and industrial production of pyrroloquinoline, by culturing a specific bacterium in a culture medium containing a carbon source such as methanol and having controlled concentration of iron of an iron compound. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium strain having methanol assimilating property, etc., is selected to give Acetobacter methanolica strain having methanol assimilating property and ability capable of producing pyrroloquinoline(PQQ). Then, the strain is inoculated into a culture medium containing a nitrogen source such as urea and inorganic salts such as HgSO4 and controlling the concentration of Fe of an iron compound such as FeCl2 to 0.3-2ppm and aerobically cultured at pH6-8 and about 30 deg.C for about 10 day to provide a cultured product. A supernatant obtained by centrifuging the cultured product is purified with chromatography, etc., to recover the pyrrolo-quinoline. |
