System for recording and reproducing video signals

A system for recording and reproducing video signals on magnetic tape is proposed. The track pattern of the magnetic tape is specified in the SMPTE(EBU) standard D1. To reduce the number of rotating transformers between rotating replay heads and fixed circuit components, controlled change-over switches are provided. A further reduction in the number of rotating transformers is obtained by a series circuit of so-called flying erase heads.
