In the case of known apparatuses for this purpose, the edge zone of the protective coating is inadequately cured. It is aimed to improve this. The protective coating (14) at the edge of the object (10) is illuminated directly, thereby achieving a better curing there. A preferred field of application is the curing of the protective coating on optical information carriers. <IMAGE>
