In such devices, the tubular fabric is conveyed vertically upwards behind the press-roller pair, at the same time guided via the stretcher and subsequently brought transversely or downwards to the folding element. The device is thus tall. The stitch orientation in the tubular fabric is changed in an undesirable manner behind the stretcher. The new device is to ensure in a constructionally simple manner that the original stitch orientation of the tubular fabric is completely re-established. In order to arrive at a low construction of the device (1) and in order no longer to influence the original stitch orientation which is re-established in the stretcher, the stretcher (10) is arranged lying approximately horizontally, bridging at least to a great extent the lateral spacing (A) between the press-roller pair (8) and the folding element (1). The stretcher (10) functions as it were as a protective conveying device for the tubular fabric (F) to the folding element (11), as a result of which the original stitch orientation re-established in the stretcher is no longer distorted. As a result of the high quality of the folded tubular fabric and of the simple construction, the device is suitable for hydroextraction of superior tubular fabric with a high throughput rate. <IMAGE>
