Reverse lock to facilitate starting of motor vehicles on inclined roadways

When starting a motor vehicle on a hill an effort has to be made to skilfully match the engine speed and the clutch friction to one another so that at the instant the vehicle brakes are released, the vehicle cannot roll back counter to the intended starting direction. The present invention of a >>freewheel/lock<< device enables this requirement to be ideally fulfilled in that it is either fixed or applied by way of a safety clutch, connected on the inlet side, at any point in the power transmission elements. Should switching off or on or reversing be required, this can, if necessary, be performed automatically as a function of the position of the transmission gearshift lever. In order to protect the reverse lock from damage due to external shocks, it is recommended that it be connected to the power transmission elements of the vehicle by way of a firmly adjustable safety clutch.
