The present invention relates to a method for painting motor-vehicle bodies or components thereof with at least two or more coats of paint. In the prior art with so-called "wet-in-wet" painting there have time and again been problems involving the risk of a plurality of layers of paint applied in series slipping. The previously known painting methods have therefore also operated with relatively long vehicle-body standing times between the separate stages of the paint application. The invention provides a remedy for this by virtue of the fact that drying by means of IR radiation is carried out between the coats of paint. The method according to the invention thus ensures that a further layer of paint for decorative purposes or a protective layer may be applied, even in very thick layers with an abrasion-resistant finish, without shearing forces causing the first layer to slip. At the same time, it is ensured that the operation can be carried out continuously without prolonged standing times for the vehicle body.
