PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF MACROLIDE COMPOUNDS

A process is described for preparing a compound (I) (wherein R<1> represents a methyl, ethyl or isopropyl group and OR<2> represents a hydroxy, methoxy or acetyloxy group) which comprises reducing a compound (II) (wherein R<1> is as defined above, R<3> is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a protecting group and Hal represents a halogen atom. The intermediates (II) are new compounds.
