The angle at which a fluid stream issues from a momentum exchange chamber Fig. 1 into a vortex chamber 6 is determined by the pressure of the fluid in inlet 1. The chamber 6 has a pair of opposed outlets 7 and receives a fluid stream through chamber 4 which is subjected to the action of a main jet issuing from nozzle 3, and a deflector jet issuing from nozzle 3a and fed from the power source 1 through a flow resistance 5 which may be constructed as illustrated in Figs.4, 5, 6 and 7 (not shown). The device is arranged so that the fluid flows into the chamber 6 in directions 10-12 according to the pressure in source 1. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown) the chamber 4 is symmetrical with nozzle 3, and the outlets 7 are arranged eccentrically on chamber 6. In another embodiment Figs.8, 9 (not shown) the chamber 4 has curved sides similar to those shown in the further embodiment illustrated in Fig. 10. Here defined passages 24a, b, c are provided for the power jet and a pair of interconnected cavities 23a, b are provided to prevent wall adhesion. This arrangement is further modified according to the embodiment of Figs. 14, 15 (not shown) by providing two defined paths only for the power jet, which paths are arranged radially and tangentially in chamber 6. In another embodiment Fig. 16 the power jet divides between pipes 32, 33 which respectively provide two radial inlets 32a, b, and two tangential inlets 34a, b into the vortex chamber. In yet another embodiment Fig. 17 the radial inlets 32a, b are fed into an annular tube 36 connected by annular chambers 37a, b to vortex chamber 6 which receives the tangential flow from inlets 34a, b Fig. 18 (not shown). This embodiment is further modified according to Figs. 19, 20 (not shown) by providing tangential slots 46 in an annular duct (45) arranged within chamber 37. The inlets 32, 33 being connected to chamber 37 at opposite sides of the duct (45). In the final embodiment Fig.22 vortex chamber 48 has pervious walls which admit fluid from inlets 32 and which are connected to injectors 34a, b. Figs. 12, 13 (not shown) illustrate the operation of the various devices described. |
