The method enables the positions of receivers to be determined with respect to a number of radio transmitting stations each feeding a number of aerials. It involves transmitting a signal at a fixed frequency successively from each of the aerials Ai of a transmitting station, and measuring the relative phases of the signals received at each receiver which have been transmitted successively from each aerial of a station STj. The angle theta i at which the electromagnetic waves arrive from the station is calculated from the measured relative phases. <IMAGE>
