An aqueous developer solution for exposed photo-polymerizable layers containing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a polymeric binder comprises at least 5 grams reckoned as anhydrous per litre of solution of a water-soluble silicate of lithium, potassium or sodium, the silica to metal oxide ratio being at least 1À5: 1, and from 2-25% by volume of solution of, as the only watermiscible organic solvent present, at least one aliphatic monohydric alcohol, ketone or ether containing a carbon chain of at most 4 carbon atoms in addition to any functional group, the pH of the solution being between 10 and 13. The organic solvent may be a 2-alkoxyethanol. The developer may also contain a wetting agent or a buffering agent and is preferably used to develop the photo-polymers of Specification 1, 135, 280. |
