PURPOSE: To manufacture a can body having an edge part suitable for flanging a lid or a bottom by deforming the circular cross-section of the can body where a flat metallic sheet cut piece is rounded and two longitudinal edges are welded to each other, into the rectangular cross-section by the expanding operation. CONSTITUTION: A can body 2 is fed to a can-manufacturing device in a cylindrical starting condition (a). The can-manufacturing device has a longitudinal seam 4, respectively, and an opened strip 6 which is closed in a ring close to one end face. The can-manufacturing device successively works the can body from the cylindrical starting condition (a), to the oval-cylindrical condition (b), the oval-conical condition (c), and then, to the deformed condition (d) having a pyramidal main part and a prismatic edge region 8. The can body 2 is worked into the form (e) in the final work.
